Men and women will compete in three individual events. They are moguls (medal sport), an acrobatic performance as competitors "dance" through tough downhill terrain; ballet (demonstration event), a graceful routine of expressive maneuvers; and aerials (demonstration), a gymnastic-styled performance.
The object of the aerial competition is to produce a spectacular jump. The competition consists of two different acrobatic leaps stressing takeoff, air (height and distance), proper style, form (precision of movement) and landing.
(Positions shown are front rotation, they also may be done in a backward rotation)
Known as "skiing the bumps," moguls consists of one qualifying run of free skiing down a steep slope covered with bumps and dips. Two upright jumps are incorporated into the run.
Skiers perform sliding, jumping and acrobatic figures to a musical theme of their choice.
