The feeling of deja vu is understandable, and the Bloomingdale girls soccer team wouldn't have it any other way.
When Bloomingdale meets Seminole for the Class 4A, Section II championship tonight, beginning at 7 at Charlie Harris Stadium, the teams will be playing for a berth in the state final four.
Seminole (14-5-3) has beaten Bloomingdale each of the past two years in the sectional.
Now the Bulls, 14-3 and ranked No. 8 in the Class 4A state poll, will try to amend recent history and earn their first trip to the state tournament.
"Here we go again," Bloomingdale coach Jo Garber said. "I think the team is kind of glad that we'll be playing Seminole. Revenge is definitely a factor, especially after how last year's game ended."
The county's other state contender is Berkeley Prep, which will play at St. Petersburg Lakewood in the Class 3A, Section II title game tonight at 7. The Buccaneers (23-2-2) defeated Daytona Beach Seabreeze in the regional championship for the right to meet the Spartans (19-3-2).
Berkeley, which has set a school single-season record for victories this year, is competing in its first sectional.
"This is really a thrill," said Berkeley coach Ken Roberts, whose team has lost to Orlando Bishop Moore in the regional championship three straight years.
"This gives us a whole new outlook on life," said Roberts. When you play in the districts, the state seems miles away. Then at regional, you're closer but it's still pretty distant. Now we're only one game away."
Wrestling: Jesuit is host to Robinson, Jefferson, Tampa Bay Vo-Tech and Plant in the Class 3A, District 10 wrestling tournament today. Former state champion Auburndale plus Bartow, Lake Wales and Haines City will also be in District 10.
Competition will begin at noon, with the consolations scheduled for 7 p.m. with finals at 8.
