CCC wins 2A-10

Justin Riess and Brian Nugent scored two goals each as host Clearwater Central Catholic beat St. Petersburg Catholic 7-0 Friday night to win the Class 2A, District 10 boys soccer tournament _ the Marauders' 16th straight district title.

The Marauders, ranked No.

1 in the 2A state poll, will be host to Cardinal Mooney in the 2A-Region V game, 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Riess scored a goal 23 seconds into the game as the Marauders (14-5-3) came out strong against the Barons (5-8-2). CCC made it 3-0 before intermission on goals by Nugent and Jeff Pollick.

CCC, aiming for a fourth straight 2A state crown and seventh overall, opened a 6-0 lead on goals by Nugent, Riess and Jerry Brozyna.

Cougars top Falcons, win 4A-7

SEMINOLE _ Hugh Richeson's two goals and two assists powered the Countryside Cougars past Dunedin 4-1 in the Class 4A, District 7 boys soccer championship.

The Cougars (20-0-1), No.

1 in the 4A state poll, moved closer to repeating as state champions.

Countryside dominated the first 30 minutes, leading 2-0 on goals from Randy Irick and Denny Tucker, both assisted by Richeson. Dunedin's play intensified following the second goal, but the Falcons (17-3-1) were unable to capitalize on several scoring chances before the half.

On defense, Cougars fullback Tondrid Campbell stifled Dunedin striker Jim Bisset, who had 29 goals going into the game.

Dunedin and Countryside played to a 0-0 tie in December. Richeson said the reason for the Cougars' increased firepower this time was unified play.

Warriors fall 3-2 in 3A-11 final

BRADENTON _ A late rally by Osceola fell short as Port Charlotte won the Class 3A, District 11 boys soccer championship 3-2.

Port Charlotte (18-0-2) scored two minutes into the match on an Aleks Lazic goal from the top of the penalty area. Midfielder Jeff Golden scored 15 minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Lazic added another goal in the second half.

With nine minutes remaining, Steve Collard scored from close range for Osceola (11-4-2). Fifty seconds later, Jason Partington took control of a loose ball in front of the Pirates' goal and knocked it in.

Jesuit beats Tarpon 2-1 in 3A-10 final

TARPON SPRINGS _ Tarpon Springs lost 2-1 to No.

4 Jesuit on a late goal by Brian Zellner in the Class 3A, District 10 final.

The Tigers advanced to the 3A, Region V game at Ridgewood on Tuesday.

The Tigers (15-5-4) scored first, but the Spongers (6-8-3) even the score when Bryan Wolff laid a shot past Tigers goalkeeper Eric Sims with 2:31 left in the first half.
