LOOKING AHEAD

TODAY'S HIGHLIGHT: Speed skater Dan Jansen, who fell twice in the '88 Olympics, competes in the 500 meters. He is one of the favorites, along with Germany's Uwe-Jens Mey. Jansen on Mey: "I hope he does his best, and if his best is better than mine, then good for him."

ALSO: Herschel Walker makes his Olympic debut as the brakeman, or pusher, on the United States' two-man bobsled team. The driver is Naples' Brian Shimer. And Austria's Petra Kronberger is the favorite in the women's downhill.
