A North Dakota teen-ager suspected in the slayings of his parents and two siblings was ordered returned to his home state Friday, not as a fugitive, but as a runaway juvenile.
Michael David Neugebauer, 15, was expected to be flown Saturday to Burleigh County, N.D., said prosecutor Don Hartery.
Prosecutors sidestepped extradition proceedings by using an agreement among states to return runaway juveniles.
Public Defender Elliot Metcalfe said that upon Neugebauer's arrival in North Dakota, he will be placed in a mental health facility for a 30-day evaluation. No hearing in the case will be scheduled until the after the evaluation, Metcalfe said.
Neugebauer was arrested Saturday at a Sarasota motel in the slayings of his father, mother, 16-year-old sister and 13-year-old brother.
