Time to make the doughnut

Aiming to set a world record, but more to help the homeless, Crystal River baker Ed Sanderson engineered the construction of a colossal raspberry jelly doughnut this week. Sanderson, who owns Ed's Three Little Bakers and M. & E.'s Donut & Subs, started working on the concoction at noon Thursday and finished it, with help, about 24 hours later. Then it was cut apart and donated to the Citrus County Interfaith Organization for the Homeless. The doughnut measured almost 19 feet across and weighed 2,500 pounds _ a world record, Sanderson says. He has experience. In December 1988, Sanderson made a doughnut weighing 2,099 pounds. The 1990-91 Guinness Book of World Records officially recognized it as the world's largest.
