A 21-year-old man arrested early Saturday morning for possession of marijuana tried to eat the evidence, according to the Pasco Sheriff's Office. Eric Lee Higgins of New Port Richey was arrested after Bosco, a sheriff's K-9 dog, searched Higgins' car and discovered a plastic bag containing a leafy green substance that tested positive as marijuana, according to an incident report. The first charge was possession of marijuana. The deputy put the bag on the passenger seat. On the way to the West Pasco jail, Higgins, who was sitting in back of the patrol cruiser, somehow managed to grab the plastic bag and tried to swallow it, records show. During a body search at the jail, corrections officers found the plastic bag and some marijuana in his mouth, an incident report shows. Higgins additionally was charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice. Saturday morning he was held in the Central Pasco Detention Center in lieu of $1,500 bail.
