A 24-year-old woman was charged with aggravated child abuse late Saturday after police said she scalded her infant stepson with hot water. Tampa police said the incident occurred between 5 and 6 p.m. and was reported by family members when they discovered it shortly before midnight. The 28-month-old boy was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was treated for first- and second-degree burns and released to his legal guardian. The stepmother, Sarah M. Nelson, of 1717 E Rivera Court, was arrested and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail, where she was being held Sunday in lieu of $25,000 bail.
67-year-old charged with murder
TAMPA _ An east Hillsborough County man was charged with first-degree murder early Sunday after a shooting. According to an arrest affidavit, a witness saw 67-year-old Forrest L. Booth shoot another man in the back with a .38-caliber revolver about 8:20 p.m. Saturday. The victim, 39-year-old Luther Carter, was taken by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, where he died four hours later. Sheriff's deputies said both lived in the mobile home park on State Road 39, about two miles south of Lithia Pinecrest Road, and had been drinking beforehand. Booth was being held Sunday without bail at the Hillsborough County Jail.
