GOP sheriff candidate leaves race

M. "Bud" Fisher has dropped out of the race for Hillsborough County sheriff. The Hillsborough Elections Office received a letter from Fisher on Feb. 11, asking that his name be removed from the list of candidates, said Chuck Smith, a county election official. Fisher, a Republican, will give $2,285 in campaign contributions he has received to the donors, in accordance with state statutes, Smith said. Fisher's withdrawal leaves Sheriff's Col. Cal Henderson with one opponent, Alex Scaglione. To date, Henderson has raised $172,493 in money and loans, Smith said. Scaglione has raised $200. Both are Democrats.

Tampa man dies in accident

A 53-year-old Tampa man was killed Sunday when he lost control of his car, drove into a canal and overturned in Pinellas County, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said. Jo Roh Byung, 26, of 4529 Worthington Circle No.

2 in Tampa, was taken to Humana Hospital Northside after the 6:35 p.m. accident. Troopers said he was driving a 1990 Toyota east on Ulmerton Road when he lost control and slid onto the south shoulder and into a canal just west of Interstate 275.
