Former Sheriff's Deputy W.
M. "Bud" Fisher has dropped out of the race for Hillsborough County sheriff. The Hillsborough Elections Office received a letter from Fisher on Feb. 11, asking that his name be removed from the list of candidates, said Chuck Smith, a county election official. Fisher, a Republican, will give $2,285 in campaign contributions he has received to the donors, in accordance with state statutes, Smith said. Fisher's withdrawal leaves Sheriff's Col. Cal Henderson with one opponent, Alex Scaglione. To date, Henderson has raised $172,493 in money and loans, Smith said. Scaglione has raised $200. Both are Democrats.
