Florida Atlantic (10-13), led by Dexter Hill's 16 points, ended a five-game losing streak by defeating Tampa 87-81 Tuesday night. FAU sank its last 11 free throws to hold off Tampa (17-6), which tried to come back from an 11-point deficit.
Kentucky: Coach Rick Pitino said freshman center Andre Riddick, who started four straight games until last Saturday, will not make the trip to Mississippi State for a game tonight. "He's falling behind academically," Pitino said.
West Virginia: Sophomore guard Marsalis Basey has been reinstated after a one-game suspension. Neither Basey nor coach Gale Catlett would say why the 5-foot-8 playmaker was suspended. Basey's father said Basey overslept and missed a class. The Mountaineers are tied for the Atlantic 10 lead and beat last-place St. Bonaventure 78-70 in the game Basey missed.
Princeton: Forward Chris Marquardt, a Clearwater Central Catholic High School graduate, is among five student-athletes selected to the 1992 District II All-Academic team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Marquardt, a senior from Belleair, is an English major with a 3.38 grade point average. He is the sixth man on the Tigers and is averaging 4.9 points and 1.9 rebounds.
