A 38-year-old pedestrian died Monday night after he was struck by three northbound vehicles while trying to cross U.S. 19.
Edward Penczak, who had no known address, was walking toward the median about 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 1991 Dodge driven by 62-year-old Ervin Steege of Neenah, Wis., according to state troopers.
Penczak landed in the roadway and was struck by two other vehicles.
Steege pulled over, as did Bryna Meadelson of New Port Richey, the driver of the third vehicle.
The second driver kept going, Highway Patrol officials say.
Penczak was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. He died shortly after reaching the hospital.
Steege sustained minor injuries.
State troopers said they knew of no local address for Penczak, who was the 11th traffic fatality in Pasco County this year.
No charges had been filed in the case as of Tuesday.
