Nelly N. Khouzam, a Clearwater lawyer, announced Wednesday she will campaign for the seat now held by retiring Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Howard P. Rives. Khouzam, 33, is president of the Florida Medical Malpractice Claims Council and is chairman of a Clearwater Bar Association committee on legal and medical issues. Khouzam, a graduate of the University of Florida College of Law, also is active in the St. Petersburg Bar Association. Rives, 68, presides over civil cases. He announced earlier this week he would retire because of a state law requiring judges to step down at age 70. The election is Sept. 1.
