King Lions

Last year: 19-12

Class 4A, District 6

Coach: Jim Macaluso, 17th year.

Assistants: Manny Garcia, Tim Chambers.

Classification: Class 4A, District 6.

Nickname: Lions.

Stadium: King Field, 6815 N. 56th St.

Record: 19-12. Lost in district final to Gaither.

Key players: Adam Danner (pitcher), Todd Woodaz (pitcher, first base), Doug Livingston (second base), Mike Vargo (shortstop), Ryan Lichtenfels (third base), Mauro Kennedy (outfield), Kelvin Porter (outfield), Chris Saladino (catcher), Kenny Valdez (catcher, outfielder), Charlie Morris (pitcher, outfield).

Strengths: The Lions will feature a very deep team at all positions. They have power, pitching and defense, and could be the team to beat from Hillsborough County.

Weaknesses: With so much depth, Macaluso still has to figure out an outfield alignment and a pitching rotation. If those aren't solidified, the Lions may start slower than expected. Also, King has a few players trying to get over nagging injuries.

Outlook: King is the perennial favorite this year. Macaluso said he has the deepest team in his 17 years of coaching at King, and experience at all positions.
