Seminole, Clearwater, Dunedin win in first round of 4A-7 tournament

Clearwater, Seminole and Dunedin won first-round games in the Class 4A, District 7 girls basketball tournament Wednesday night.

Dunedin defeated Northeast 46-41 in the opening game while host Seminole downed Pinellas Park 44-30 and Clearwater routed Largo 81-44.

The Tornadoes play the Warhawks at 6:15 p.m. today in one semifinal. The Falcons face top-seeded and unbeaten Countryside (23-0) in the other semifinal. The Cougars, ranked No.

3 in the Class 4A state poll, drew a first-round bye in the tournament. They defeated Dunedin earlier in the season by 20 points.

Dunedin's Melissa Szentmiklosi scored a season-high 12 points and Kendra Blanks contributed 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Falcons past the Vikings.

Seminole's 6-feet-5 center Christine Olson scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to help the Warhawks down the Patriots, who had won four straight district titles.

Stacia Kasper scored 27 points as the second-seeded Tornadoes easily defeated the Packers.
