Clubs honor four students from Ridgewood High

The American Legion Paradise Post 7 of New Port Richey and the Port Richey Rotary Club have selected outstanding students at Ridgewood High School.

They are Matthew L. Stamper, Kevin Nichols, Brian Jansen and Gail Seeram.

Stamper, a freshman, is the son of Gary and Susan Stamper. He is a member of the marching band and wrestling team. He plans to attend college and pursue a career in oceanography or marine biology.

Nichols, a sophomore, is the son of Karen Nichols. He plans to attend a community college and acquire a skill or trade.

Jansen, a junior, is the son of John and Linda Jansen. He is a member of the Interact Club, tennis team and is student body vice president. He plans to attend college and then medical school.

Seeram, a senior, is the daughter of Ralph and Bibi Seeram. She is a member of student council, Interact, National Honor Society and is senior class treasurer. She plans to attend St. John's University and pursue a career as a lawyer.

Ruth Bosben: Awareness Assembly

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Ruth Bosben recently attended the American Legion Auxiliary's 11th annual Awareness Assembly in Washington, D.C.

She is a member of the American Legion Paradise Post 79 Auxiliary Unit of New Port Richey.

Jill Hauver: dean's list

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Jill Hauver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hauver of New Port Richey, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. She is a junior. A student must achieve a 3.5 grade point average while carrying a full semester load to make the dean's list.

Marchman students: media honor

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Seniors Chris Ryan and Jason York, and Aras Van Biber, a recent graduate of Marchman Vocational Center, created a program entitled "Madalin" as part of an advertising course taught by Kent Harriman at Marchman Vocational Center, New Port Richey.

This production team wrote the script, then videotaped and edited the musical video show. Van Biber also wrote the music for the video.

The students entered "Madalin" in an international student media contest sponsored by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology and won second place.

Jason Goldberg: scholarship recipient

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Jason Goldberg, son of Dr. Steve and Helene Goldberg of New Port Richey and a senior at Ridgewood High School, is the recipient of the University of Miami Isaac Bashevis Singer Scholarship. The four-year scholarship is valued at $70,000.

Goldberg's selection was based on his academic grade point average in excess of 4.0 and his extracurricular activities. He was among 2,200 applicants from across the United States.

Daisy Frichtel: volunteer award

PORT RICHEY _ Daisy Frichtel was presented the Volunteer of the Year Award by County Commissioner Mike Wells at a recent annual appreciation dance for volunteers of Gulf Highlands subdivision at the clubhouse in Port Richey.

Weltner and Force: service awards

HUDSON _ Edgar Weltner and Charles Force, residents of Windsor Woods Retirement Community, were presented awards for service in the Masonic organization.

Weltner received recognition for a 75-year membership and Force for a 50-year membership.

Russell Bearford, past worshipful master of Pearl of the West Masonic Lodge of New Port Richey, made the presentations recently at a reception in the recipients' honor at Windsor Woods.

Mindy Miller: Fulbright grant finalist

NEW PORT RICHEY _ Mindy Miller, daughter of Raymond and Jean Miller, has been notified by the Fulbright Foundation that she is a finalist in the scholarship competition for the 1992-93 year.

Miss Miller is studying at Daystar University In Nairobi, Kenya, this semester. She is a Wheaton College exchange student.

The grant would pay all of her expenses to attend Cambridge University in England, where she plans to complete its one-year master's degree program in Third World political science and economics. Fulbright finalists usually receive grant confirmation in June, after the university's requirements have been met and approval has been granted by a special committee in the host country. Miss Miller is a senior at Wheaton College and is a candidate for graduation with a degree in political science and economics. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1988 and was valedictorian.
