The Toronto Maple Leafs have held trade discussions with the Quebec Nordiques regarding Canadian Olympic team star Eric Lindros, according to local radio reports.
CJCL reported that sources said a trade is in the works that would send forwards Daniel Marois and Yannick Perreault, several first-round draft choices and $20-million to the Nordiques. CHOG reported that Nordiques officials have been in Toronto all week and there have been numerous conference calls during the last two days between Toronto, Quebec and Albertville.
Both the Leafs and Nordiques denied they were discussing a Lindros trade.
Lindros has refused to sign with the Nordiques, who made him the first choice in last year's NHL draft.
A huge cash contribution in a trade is not a new idea in the NHL. The Edmonton Oilers got a reported $15-million in the deal that sent Wayne Gretzky to Los Angeles.
