Proposed budget cuts

ELEMENTARY

Eliminate 15 assistant principals

Return media specialists to libraries full time.

Eliminate media assistants

Increase class size by two pupils per class

Increase emotionally handicapped class size by one student

Assign one teaching assistant per school to rotate between primary and intermediate educable mentally handicapped and severly learning disabled classes.

Eliminate elementary band program

Eliminate traveling strings teachers

Eliminate all 77 reading specialists

Add 14 curriculum specialists to help principals at 28 schools without assistant principals

Eliminate elementary foreign language program

Eliminate almost 39 teachers assistants

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Eliminate one assistant principal in each of the 18 regular middle schools and in the two Discovery schools

Eliminate the media assistants

Replace certified teacher in the Alternative Behavior Center (detention) room with a paraprofessional

Decrease from seven class periods per day to six

Teachers teach five of six periods

Increase language arts classes to the same size as other academic subjects. Teachers would have 140 students per day instead of the current 125.

Eliminate traveling strings teachers

Increase emotional handicapped class size by one pupil

Assign one teaching assistant between educable mentally handicapped and severe learning disabilities self-contained classes

HIGH SCHOOL

Eliminate all 15 registrars and add 15 data processing clerks

Eliminate all 15 occupational specialists

Eliminate all 15 activities directors

Eliminate media assistants

Replace certified teacher in the intervention center with a paraprofessional

Decrease from seven class periods per day to six

Teachers would teach five of six periods

Magnet school have choice of offering an optional seventh period

Eliminate traveling strings teachers

Language arts teachers increase class load from 115 per day to 140, same as other academic areas

Increase emotionally handicapped class by one student

Assign one teaching assistant between educable mentally handicapped and severe learning disabilities self-contained classes.

EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION CENTERS

Eliminate curriculum specialists

COUNTYWIDE

Eliminate two of the three environmental centers and the resource teachers assigned there, maintaining Anderson Environmental Education Center at Sawgrass Lake Park

VOCATIONAL

Eliminate 3.5 occupational specialists

Combine one bookkeeper and one secretary into one job

CUSTODIAL

Add staff only for the new Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Elementary

CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION

Eliminate associate superintendent for business services

Eliminate director of PK-12 science and his secretary

Eliminate supervisor of elementary social studies and her secretary

Eliminate supervisor of secondary mathematics and her secretary

Eliminate supervisor of PK-12 physical education, health and driver's education and his secretary

Eliminate supervisor of exceptional education (position vacant because of retirement)

Eliminate supervisor of health occupations and her secretary

Eliminate supervisor of school library services

Eliminate supervisor of school social work services (position vacant because of retirement)

Eliminate assistant bookkeeper for vocational education

Eliminate machine repair technician, vocational education

Eliminate clerk typist for special projects

Eliminate two secretaries to be determined.

OTHER CUTS

Eliminate one resource teacher at Enterprise Village

Eliminate one writing demonstration resource teacher

Eliminate one business education resource teacher for vocational education

Eliminate one bookkeeper at Seminole Vocational Education Center

Two high school guidance counselors and media specialists and one out-of-center teacher and one ROTC teacher will be cut because of lower high school enrollment, not because of the budget

Eliminate 1.5 reading and language arts specialists for exceptional education

Eliminate 70 teachers aides in exceptional education
