DETAILS IN SPORTS

SILVER: Midori Ito of Japan falls during the free skating portion of the women's figure skating competition. Ito did land a triple Axel, earning her the silver medal. It was the first triple Axel completed in the Olympics by a woman.

GOLD: After a near-fall, Kristi Yamaguchi, of Fremont, Calif., skates her way to an Olympic gold medal, the first for a U.S. woman since Dorothy Hamill's gold in 1976.

BRONZE: r Nancy Kerrigan, of Boston, slips during competition but claims the bronze medal. Tonya Harding, of Portland, Ore., finished fourth. Never before in the Olympics have three U.S. women finished in the top four.
