Al Lopez, the baseball Hall of Fame manager and catcher, drives off the 16th tee at Seven Springs Country Club in New Port Richey on Friday during the club's Men's Golf Association scramble. Lopez was the guest speaker at the monthly luncheon of the association. He related some of his experiences in a half-hour talk and then fielded questions from some of the 180 golfers present. Lopez, who was inducted in 1977 and now resides in Pinellas County, was the only American League manager to finish ahead of the Yankees in the 1950s _ with the Indians in 1954 and White Sox in 1959. He also held several records for durability as a catcher and is considered one of the all-time great defensive catchers.
