Crystal River puts Cove permit on hold

The city on Friday put the Crystal Cove site work permit on hold until the city, the county and developer Burnup and Sims can work out details of who can issue a permit on the project, City Manager Merv Waldrop said. A dredging and filling project along the Indian River canal area of the 800-acre parcel was granted a permit by the city in late January. But after a complaint from environmentalist and former City Council member Helen Spivey, the county entered the process, saying that they hold jurisdiction over the recently annexed land because Crystal River has not yet added the parcel to the city's Comprehensive Plan. Officials with Burnup and Sims say that no work will begin on the site until they follow through with the county's permitting process.
