Brandon wins 4A-Region II crown

If seeing Brandon in the top spot at the Class 4A, Region II tournament is getting to be boring, well, maybe you aren't looking at it right.

"Winning the district is nice," said Eagles coach Russ Cozart, whose team won its third straight region title Saturday. "But I try to look at the individual victories."

The Eagles beat runner-up Countryside 193-136, qualified a school-record nine athletes for the state tournament and produced three weight-class champs.

Is that good enough, coach?

"I would have hoped for more," he said. "But I'll take three champs and three seconds any day."

The Eagles were led by defending state champion Dennis Kitko, who won at 119. Other Brandon champs were Stein Edwards at 112 and Darrell Tabor at 125. Other Hillsborough winners were King's Guy Rogers at 103, Bloomingdale's Tim Craig at 160 and Dean O'Brien at 220 and East Bay's Eric Rivera at 275.
