The wife of golfer John Daly gave birth to a 6-pound baby girl Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.
Both Bettye Fulford and the baby girl were resting comfortably, said Dana Roberts. Fulford gave birth to the baby at 6:09 p.m., Roberts said. She said the parents have not chosen a name for the infant yet.
Daly, the winner of last year's PGA Championship and a resident of nearby Cordova, is in Memphis to play in the $1.1-million Federal Express St. Jude Classic this week.
Fulford had filed a palimony suit last year against Daly, contending he had promised to marry and support her after she talked him out of quitting golf. The suit ended when the couple married in May.
Macon, Ga., lawyer Carl Reynolds said at the time that Daly and Fulford hammered out their differences while Daly was in Augusta for the Masters in April.
Fulford's suit also said that when Daly qualified for the PGA Tour, he asked her to join him, which she did, quitting a $40,000-a-year job as an executive at a Macon hotel.
