Great starts on "Star Search'

Sultry Sharon Stone of Basic Instinct fame was Star Search's first spokesmodel, although the pilot she appeared in never aired. Still, Star Search uses then-brunette Stone's walk-on as a promotion videotape.

But plenty of other stars did get their start from exposure on Star Search. To name a few: Tiffany, Dennis Miller, Sinbad, country music's Sawyer Brown and talk-show host Jenny Jones.

The talent competition for prizes of $100,000 each includes teen vocalist, female/male vocalist, adult dance, musical group, comedy and spokesmodel. Also, two $10,000 awards are given annually for junior vocalist and junior dance.

Star Search has relocated its production to Disney/MGM Studios, and an audition call there for September will be announced sometime this summer. In the meantime, if you wish to mail in an audition tape, call (212) 980-5037 for information. (This is a New York City phone number.)
