Winter Haven running back Demetric Denmark carried the ball 26 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Devils beat Bloomingdale 24-6 in a rainy District 5 game Friday night.
Both teams are 1-1 in district play.
"We really had to win this game after losing to Plant City," said Winter Haven coach Dusty Triplett. "Demetric had another great football game for us."
Bloomingdale was unable to generate a ground game and the rain seemed to stop the passing game for both teams. The Bulls' defense limited the Blue Devils to six points in the first half.
But Denmark scored twice in the third quarter _ once from five yards out and again from the 13.
Bloomingdale quarterback Chad Hermida set up a first and goal from the Devils 6-yard line in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard pass completion to wide receiver Bobby Lentz. C.J. Ward ran the final six yards for a touchdown with 7:49 left in the game.
Hermida then connected with Robbie Schreiber for the two-point conversion and with the Bulls trailing 18-8, a comeback seemed possible.
But on the next series, Denmark dampened Bloomingdale's hopes with a 71-yard touchdown run through the middle of the line and down the right side.
