A tornado touched down in Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon, damaging the roof of the Spring Hill Fire and Rescue District's Station 4 and damaging nearby St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
According to initial reports, there were no injuries, but the tornado, which apparently proceeded south down Mariner Boulevard, also damaged eight to 10 other structures, including Springstead High School, officials said over radio broadcasts. Damage ranged from moderate to severe.
The tornado came after two days of rainy weather on the North Suncoast.
The weather also could have caused the death of a 40-year-old Port Richey taxicab driver early Saturday. The two-car crash was still under investigation.
The rain continued throughout the afternoon, although officials reported no flooding along coastal communities in either Citrus or Hernando county.
