Unseeded Shaun Stafford scored her second upset in as many days and won the Taiwan Open with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over second-seeded Ann Grossman on Sunday.
It was the first professional tournament victory for the 25-year-old former University of Florida player from Gainesville.
Stafford, ranked 175th in the world, had knocked top-seeded and 16th-ranked Amanda Coetzer of South Africa out on Saturday. Grossman was ranked 60th.
Grand Prix: Steffi Graf defeated Jana Novotna 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the final in Leipzig, Germany. Graf, ranked No. 2 in the world, needed 1 hour, 31 minutes to beat Novotna.
Bayonne Open: Maneula Maleeva-Fragniere won the French tournament for the second straight year, beating Nathalie Tauziat 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3. It was the top-seeded Maleeva-Fragniere's first tournament victory of the year. She was a semifinalist in the U.S. Open last month.
Queensland Open: Unseeded Guillaume Raoux defeated teenager Kenneth Carlsen 6-4, 7-6 (12-10) to win the tournament in Brisbane, Australia. Raoux became the first French player to win an ATP singles title this year. Carlsen, 19, had hoped to be the first Danish player to win a tournament since the open era began in 1968.
