Basic training

Army Reserve Pvt. Beatrice Rivera has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Jenny Irizarry of Santurce, Puerto Rico, and Modesto Rivera Jr. of New Port Richey.

Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher D. Arndt recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in San Diego, Calif. He is the son of Robert L. and Susan D. Arndt of Hudson.

Deployments

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Anthony T. Brown recently deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, homeported in Norfolk, Va., to take part in Navy Fleet Exercise off the Virginia and North Carolina coasts. He is the son of Robert L. and Betty J. Brown of Dade City, and a 1979 graduate of Gulf Comprehensive High School in Dade City. He joined the Navy in August 1979.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Vince C. Gaitani is aboard the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto, homeported in Norfolk, Va., and is midway through a six-month deployment to the Caribbean and South America. He is the son of Vicente J. and Alicia Gaitani of Hudson, and a 1986 graduate of of Hudson High School. He joined the Navy in April 1987.

Other

Air Force Capt. Tom G. Dugan has been named officer of the quarter. Dugan, an EC-C135 navigator, is the son of Ethel M. Murray of New Port Richey. His wife, Anne, is the daughter of Charles C. and Kathleen Clapp of Port Richey. The captain is a 1977 graduate of Gulf Comprehensive High School in New Port Richey.

Brian E. Memoli received practical work in military leadership at the ROTC advanced camp at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C. Successful completion of the advanced camp and graduation from college result in a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army, Guard or Reserve. The cadet is a student at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and the son of Robert and Phyllis J. Memoli of New Port Richey. Memoli is a 1989 graduate of Gulf High School.

Navy Airman Apprentice Todd L. Christy recently graduated from the Basic Avionics Technician Course. He is the son of Lawson S. and Elaine L. Christy of Port Richey. Christy is a 1991 graduate of Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey and joined the Navy in October 1991.

Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Charles R. Smith is aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa, homeported in San Diego, Calif. He is the son of Jennie Smith of Hudson and joined the Navy in January 1967.
