The Times Publishing Co. will pay $31,500 in back overtime pay to 96 present and former news employees of the St. Petersburg Times as a result of an audit prompted by a complaint from a former employee.
The company and the U.S. Department of Labor agreed to the amount after a detailed analysis of pay records and interviews with employees. The money will be paid to eligible employees who worked between May 12, 1990, and Sept. 14, 1991. Amounts will vary.
"The Times is confident this is a fair and equitable resolution," said company spokesman Michael F. Foley. "It has been and continues to be the policy of the Times that staffers be paid for overtime worked."
Notification of employees begins today.
