Jambo and Sana for all your words of encouragement. (Hello and thanks in Kiswahili.)
Last weekend, there was a whirlwind of activity in the St. Petersburg community. I got to attend only a few things, but they were smashing.
The Heritage '92 Festival, sponsored by Heritage Renaissance Enterprises Inc., got off to a great start with its role models and mentors ceremony. The auditorium at the Enoch Davis Center was full while the middle and high school students were being honored for their academic and cultural achievements. Many prominent members of the African-American community served as mentors to these young people.
Also attending the weekend of seminars and workshops were a group of five teenagers from Atlanta called Sisters Against Black Violence. These young people have a message that all of St. Petersburg should hear. Hopefully, they will be able to come back again.
