Business club to name Woman of the Year

The Carrollwood Business and Professional Women's Club has announced the five finalists for the Woman of the Year award that will be presented Oct. 21 at the club's National Business Women's Week celebration.

The finalists are Mary Kay Abernathy, human resources director at Price Waterhouse; Kathy Baggett Church, president of Omni Tax and Financial Advisors; Carlyle-Singer Jones, comptroller at Basetec Office Systems; Anita P. Nales, training manager at GTE-South Area; and Emma Salzer, volunteer/retired social worker.

Qualities considered in selecting the winner include career achievement, contributions to women's advancement and community services.

Kathy Fountain of WTVT-Ch. 13 and 1991 award recipient Louise Thompson, along with the Carrollwood BPW, will host the National Business Women's Week celebration.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Carrollwood Village Golf and Tennis Club, 13903 Clubhouse Drive. Tickets are $12, and reservations are available by contacting Melanie Walter at 948-1465. Marine Cpl. Troy A. Barlock recently received a Letter of Appreciation while assigned with Headquarter Battery, 10th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Barlock was cited for consistently performing his duties in an exemplary manner.

Barlock, son of Robert D. and Janice C. Barlock of Tampa, is a 1987 graduate of Leto High School. He joined the Marine Corps in March 1989.
