A Hillsborough sheriff's deputy has been cleared of misdemeanor criminal charges in county court, authorities said.
Deputy Eddie L. Marayne, charged last April with assault and the unlawful display of a weapon, was found innocent last week, Assistant State Attorney John Skye said.
The charges stem from a 1990 incident in which a Brandon woman, who was dating Marayne, accused him of choking her and threatening her with a gun. Marayne was on duty at the time.
Marayne's attorney, Eddie Suarez, said a civil complaint against the deputy and the Sheriff's Office is still pending.
