For most, Columbus Day is just another work day

It looks as if bankers and postal workers may be the only people enjoying a day off Monday in celebration of Columbus Day.

Get your banking done today or Saturday, because banks will be closed all day.

All stations, branches and outlying associate offices of the U.S. Post Office also will be closed, and no home or business deliveries will be made.

Limited mail collections will be made, and 24-hour window service will be available with reduced holiday staffing at the Main Post Office at Tampa International Airport.

Express Mail and special deliveries will receive service on the holiday. The bulk mail acceptance unit will be closed, but on-demand caller service will be available at the airport office and the Downtown Station at 401 S Florida Ave. Normal postal operations will resume Tuesday.

Otherwise, it's pretty much business as usual.

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority will operate on a regular bus schedule.

Garbage collection won't be disturbed; Tampa Sanitation and Temple Terrace Sanitation will operate under a regular schedule.

Tampa Museum and Henry B. Plant Museum will remain open, along with the Museum of Science and Industry and the Children's Museum of Tampa.

GTE Customer Service Centers, Tampa Electric and People's Gas will be open regular hours.

Hillsborough County schools, Hillsborough Community College, the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa will have classes as usual.

Tampa Recreation and Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation will remain open, along with the downtown Tampa Main Library and the Hillsborough County Courthouse.
