Memorial Mass concludes Columbus celebration

A Memorial Mass at 9 a.m. Monday will climax the 500th anniversary of the landing of Christopher Columbus in America.

The Rev. Aiden Foynes, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in New Port Richey, will be the celebrant at the church.

The American Legion Post 343 of Seven Springs and the Fourth Degree Honor Guard will participate.

An annual Columbus Day Awards Breakfast will take place afterward in the Parish Center on High Street, New Port Richey.

Frank Treanor, president of the West Pasco Columbus Quincentennial Committee, will be toastmaster.

Ann Hildebrand, Pasco County commissioner, will present the Columbus Day proclamation.

Peter W. Kennedy, vice principal of River Ridge Middle School, who was chosen as the most outstanding vice principal of the Pasco school system this year, will be keynote speaker. His topic is "Columbus, A Man of His Times."

Anthony J. Tedesco, past grand knight of Father William Loesch Council 8155 of the Knights of Columbus, will present the Quincentennial Education Award.

Nicholas Casciotta, breakfast chairman, will serve a full course breakfast for $3 per person.
