The NHL is investigating an alleged threat by a referee against two Edmonton Oilers.
During Thursday's game between the Calgary Flames and Oilers, Don Koharski gave the Oilers two unsportsmanlike-conduct penalties in a game they lost 7-2.
According to Edmonton players who complained to Koharski late in the game, two players, Craig Simpson and Esa Tikkanen, were the target of the threats.
"He made threats to us," Simpson said. "He said to Tikky and me that he would get us in Vancouver (today), and that we wouldn't last a minute."
For the Oilers' game in Vancouver, Koharski was to have been the referee, but it now appears his assignment will be handled by someone else. "We'll investigate further," a league official said.
