School workers union elects a staff member as president

Liz Geiger, a staff member for the United School Employees of Pasco since 1986, has been elected president of the group that represents Pasco's 4,000 school workers.

Geiger, 49, of Zephyrhills, received 551 of 1,023 votes cast by the union's 1,600 dues-paying members.

In the ballot count Friday, Alan Jones received 259 votes, Mickie Ettel 136 and Richard Green 67. Geiger replaces Stephen Schaefer, who along with another USEP worker resigned in August.

"I'm looking forward to getting things back on track," said Geiger, who was a mathematics teacher before she went to work for USEP.
