Church history: Bell Shoals Baptist began 30 years ago with meetings at a funeral home, Pastor Teague said. As soon as the church property was purchased, members set up a tent and conducted services on orange crates. From those beginnings, the church property has grown to 14 acres and 150,000-square-feet of building space. Teague said the church has 2,800 members and averages 1,400 people at worship services and 1,200 in Bible study.
Special programs or activities: IMPACT, or Insightful Ministries Planned At Creative Times, is open to members and the community and includes programs on marriage enrichment, how to study the Bible and support classes, among others. The church also offers three levels of Bible study. The senior adult ministry, call Post Graduates, provides a Meals on Wheels program and has weekly lunches in which 50-70 people attend. Pastor Teague also said the church has an exceptionally strong women's ministry, which will present Christmas in the 90s in November. The program will be a celebration of Christmas traditions and 500 to 700 people are expected. Another recent special event was Family Fest '92 on Sept. 14. The day included free refreshments, clowns, games, prizes, pony rides and a concert by the Stone Brothers.
