World Match Play: Jeff Sluman beat Ian Woosnam 3 and 2 and Nick Faldo defeated Nick Price 2 and 1 in the semifinals at Virginia Water, England. Woosnam blew a three-hole lead and was one down to Sluman at the halfway point after a bogey at the 17th, where he failed to make the green in three. Sluman birdied the hole and both players birdied the 18th before they went out again. It was all over at the 34th hole where Sluman rolled a 60-foot putt within inches of the hole, and Woosnam missed a 12-footer.
Beacon Woods Invitational: University of Miami sophomore Julie Brand added a 1-under-par 71 to her bogey-free, first-day score of 69 to retain the lead at the Beacon Woods Golf Club in New Port Richey. Brand's two-day total of 140 also helped the Hurricanes retain their lead in the team standings at 598. Defending champion Georgia was six strokes behind heading into today's final round. The University of South Florida, host of the 12-team collegiate tournament, moved from seventh to a tie for fourth with Florida State.
Lady Kat Invitational: The University of North Carolina had a team round of 299 to take the second-round lead at Lexington, Ky. Florida fell from second to seventh after a round of 323.
