Karaoke directions for amateurs

For wannabes contemplating karaoke, Entertainment Weekly advises staying away from "high notes, low notes, slow songs and long drawn-out solos."

The following songs are good:

"Staying Alive: Even the Rolling Rock-impaired can manage two words and the finger-pointing choreography."

I Want to Hold Your Hand: "Go silent on the word "hand' and you'll bring down the house."

The following songs are not good:

Girls Just Want to Have Fun: "Before even considering this, just ask yourself, "Where is Cyndi Lauper now?' "

Blowin' in the Wind: "Consider a tune officially put to rest if it has been sung by Gomer Pyle."
