DAR chapter honors member

Members of the Alafia River Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution have chosen Peggy Ducharme as their "Outstanding Junior Member."

During the past year, Ducharme has served her chapter as chairwoman of membership, yearbook, honor roll and programs. She represented her chapter as page at the organization's state conference, and is serving as vice president of the state Page's Club.

DuCharme, who joined the chapter in 1987, is now vice regent of the Alafia River Chapter. Her name will be submitted for consideration for the title of "Outstanding Junior Member of the Florida State Society DAR."

Nominations are now being accepted for the "American History Teacher of the Year." This teacher will be honored in February.

People who know of an outstanding Brandon area teacher who taught in grade five through 12 between January 1992 and January 1993 should send nominations to Deborah Klarmann, 1019 Pinegrove Drive, Brandon, FL 33511 before Jan. 1.

The teacher should have stimulated, in the students, a deeper understanding and appreciation of American history. They must be capable of evoking interest in the subject, and encouraging a spirit of patriotism and loyal support of the country and its constitution.
