Actor Joe Pesci patched things up between Sinead O'Connor and the pope, then put in his own 2 cents' worth during a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live.
A week after the Irish singer ripped up a picture of the pope, Pesci appeared on the same show holding up a patched-up 8-by-10 photo of Pope John Paul II.
"Sinead O'Connor tore up a picture of the pope and I thought that was wrong," he said to applause from the studio audience. "So I asked somebody to paste it back together. I think that's a lot better.
"But I'll tell you one thing. She was very lucky it wasn't my show. Because if it was my show, I wudda gave her such a smack," he said of the singer who shaves her head. "I wudda grabbed her by her _ her eyebrows."
O'Connor has said she wanted to protest what she perceives as religious oppression in overwhelmingly Roman Catholic Ireland.
