Belinda Lee West Womack and her five-piece band, Kool Reflektions, have made a name for themselves in the Tampa Bay area because of their energetic be-bop and straight-ahead jazz sounds.
"Our performances are exciting," Womack said. "We're not mellow."
Womack has lived in Tampa for 12 years. This year, Tampa Mayor Sandy Freedman declared April 26 "Belinda Womack Day" because of all the community service Womack has done in the area.
She has spearheaded the program Jazz Against Illegal Drugs and Alcohol Abuse. She also has made efforts to educate people about the history and importance of jazz in this country.
Together, Womack and the Reflektions have produced two locally-sold recordings. They have opened for such artists as Ray Charles, Branford Marsalis, Nat Adderley and B.
