Midnite Brass is a high energy 12-piece band with a six-piece horn section.
"It's a real full sound with that horn section," said Basil Rodriguez of Tampa, who plays the trumpet in Midnite Brass. "You don't see a horn section like that very often. People hear the band and really freak out."
The band has been together for three years, specializing in '60s tunes, R
B and the music of the old horn bands. They usually play at clubs such as Stingers, Malibu Beach Club, Gasoline Alley and Casey's Cove.
"This is mostly a fun thing for us," Rodriguez said. "Everyone's in other bands. We all work with different people."
A number of local bands hire out the Midnite Brass horn section for their recordings. Rodriguez writes the arrangements for the bands who use the horn section.
"Our energy level is always high," he said. "That's why people like us. We probably only do two slow songs in a night."
