Randall K. Goodgame, a pianist and senior at Clearwater High School, is the 1992 winner of the annual $1,000 Jazz Holiday scholarship.
Goodgame was in the jazz band for two years and was wind song pianist in 11th grade. He is pianist for the Belleair Country Club and for the Carlouel Yacht Club.
The son of Dr. John T. Jr. and Beth Goodgame of Druid Road in Clearwater, he plans to attend Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama where he will major in music.
The award is matched again this year by Barnett Bank. The scholarship, a tradition for five years, goes to Pinellas high school seniors who demonstrate talent and dedication to jazz.
The recipient must demonstrate musical proficiency and interest in a career in music and jazz and must be a member of a music ensemble. Goodgame will perform at a kick-off party tonight in the Atrium at Clearwater Square.
In addition to his interest in music, Goodgame has been on the Clearwater High School swim team for four years, was a class officer, a peer counselor, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of the Latin Club and was on the soccer team.
Goodgame, a member of the National Honor Society, has won several awards including the jazz band's Most Outstanding New Musician (freshman year), Most Dedicated Swimmer and Mr. Tornado 1991.
