Combo to bring audience straight-ahead experience

Published Oct. 12, 2005

The Jazz Xperience is a mainstream, straight-ahead jazz combo formed 3{ years ago by Tampa businessmen Phil Provenzano and Dickie Rumore.

The sounds of the flugelhorn, baritone sax, piano, bass and drums combine to form their unique sound. This five-piece combo will perform for the first 45 minutes of their show Thursday. For the last half hour, the quintet will be expanded to an octet with the addition of a trombone, an alto sax and a tenor sax.

The group has performed with such artists as Nick Brignola, Phil Urso and Manfredo Fest.

Provenzano and Rumore are Tampa natives and have been friends since their days at the University of Tampa in the 1960s. Provenzano owns Co-Ordinated Capital and is co-owner of Provenzano Enterprises in Tampa.

Rumore is president and founder of Paragon Music Stores, which has outlets in Tampa, Pinellas Park, Sarasota and Plantation. He plans to open the Jazz Cellar in Ybor City in late October.
