Jackson Elementary School in Everett, Wash., "adopted" a local stream that was dying.
They got a grant from the county and bought an aquarium to start raising salmon.
The schoolchildren keep the stream clean and take care of the baby salmon, releasing them in May when they are old enough. The school staff has become involved in other environmental projects, including letter-writing campaigns.
