Five longtime friends recently joined forces to form The Jazz Spectrum, a mainstream, be-bop, straight-ahead jazz band.
The band's leader, Gil Trommer of Clearwater, said the newly formed group will specialize in high-energy, blues-based music in the tradition of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.
The band consists of Trommer on drums; Wes Young, bass; Joe Staggi, piano; Merv Stone, tenor; and Roy Garcia, guitar.
"We've all known each other for 10 years," Trommer said. "We do high energy stuff. A lot of blues tunes. It's going to be fun for everyone."
