Party will open annual jazz festival

Contemporary jazz vocalist Roseanna Vitro will sing at a kick-off party to open the 1992 Jazz Holiday festivities tonight. The party will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Atrium in Clearwater Square, 601 Cleveland St.

This year's Jazz Holiday scholarship winner, pianist Randall K. Goodgame, also will perform.

Vitro, who has been a featured performer on the Jazz Holiday schedule in previous years, said she will include some of the songs from her latest album, Reaching for the Moon, and from the album on which she now is working.

Goodgame, a senior at Clearwater High School, is the 1992 winner of the annual $1,000 Jazz Holiday scholarship, awarded this year for the fifth time and matched again this year by Barnett Bank.

The new Downtown Clearwater Arts Colony also opens today with special performances in conjunction with the opening of Jazz Holiday.

At the Consortium for Art and Media Studies, 520 Cleveland St., a performance of "contemporary attitude music" is planned by Mad Anthony Wayne at 7 tonight. Admission is $6.

Also planned at CAMS are open mike sessions at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a "jazz night" at 7 p.m. Monday. These programs will continue weekly.

Festivalgoers can visit the Arts Colony studio/galleries from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today through Saturday. The stores will not be open Sunday.

Free two-hour parking will be available on side streets around the Arts Colony, which is on Cleveland Street between Osceola and Garden avenues.
