Today is White Cane Safety Day, and clients of the Florida Center for the Blind Inc. in Crystal River marked it by getting a second tool allowing them more independence, Florida Identification Cards. The cards, which can be bought by anyone age 12 or older for $3 at any Florida Driver License Bureau, are important to people who do not have a driver's license but need formal identification for cashing checks and other transactions. Thirty clients of the Florida Center for the Blind got cards Wednesday. The center is having an open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Visitors can meet teachers and students, see enabling technologies, and more. For more information, call 795-8800.
