DEATHS

RICHARD WEBB, 77, known to millions of television viewers in the 1950s as Captain Midnight, has committed suicide, a coroner's spokesman in Los Angeles said Friday. The man who once led children on an imaginary trip through the universe on his popular television show, known in some markets as Jet Jackson, Flying Commando, died in the living room of his home in the Los Angeles suburb of Van Nuys from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Scott Carrier, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, said Mr. Webb left a note citing failing health as the motive for taking his life.
