David Letterman cannot take the title Late Night with him when he moves to CBS this summer because it belongs to NBC. But he will be doing the next best thing, CBS announced Thursday. He will call his new program Late Show.
The show will have its premiere Aug. 30 and will run Mondays through Fridays from 11:35 p.m. to 12:35 a.m., the network said.
NBC, which announced in April that Conan O'Brien, a little-known comedy writer, would replace Letterman, has not decided on a name for its new late-night show. NBC officials said Thursday that the show would start in late August.
June 25 will be Letterman's last night on NBC, which will broadcast reruns of his show until O'Brien's goes on the air.
